Big Brother Africa is back. Not yet but soon to be back, actually it is scheduled to hit the television screens on May 1 when all the 14 participating housemates have been introduced to viewers across the continent of Africa.
Going into its sixth season, the question that many fans of the pan-continental show would be asking is which country’s representative is likely to take over from Uti Nwachuku, the wily Nigerian who won last edition.
However, for many in this country, the question that would be most important to them is who will represent them at this season’s competition. That question is most important first and foremost before any thought of even winning it would arise.
Sorry to pester you one more time with our sorry performance at the Big Brother Africa over the last five seasons with representatives who never made it close to the money winning zone. From Sammy B through Kwaku T and Mimi to Ras Wayo right back to Sammy B (the last being the All Star edition), our representatives have always faltered.
It is the reason why many people who have followed the television reality show have had this question on their minds.
They have tended to think that those who were chosen in the past did not represent the country well enough. Who then would it be this time round?
It is certain that whoever would represent this country had already been chosen and prepared to travel to South Africa before the launch of the show two Sundays ahead. Thus the folks at Multichoice should know who but typically, they have kept mum on who it is.
However, over the last week social media (twitter and facebook) have been buzzing with rumours of who is likely to be chosen for Ghana. It seems some have concluded that the person representing us is Confidence, the proprietor of Club Aphrodisiac in Accra.
I know for a fact that Confidence was at the audition but I also know there were several other people some in the media and some out of the media. For example former Hitz DM presenter Amanda Jissih and Baby Gee of XFM were said to have taken part.
Could Confidence have trumped all these people and got the opportunity to represent Ghana? If so does she have what it takes to go further than those before her? Would she be the one, if indeed she is, to win us that elusive Big Brother Africa mega bucks?
We have but a few days to know whether Confidence has the confidence to take on Africa as the representative of Ghana. Should it happen that the rumour on social media had no basis then we’d re-examine whoever it was who the selectors chose for us.
Meanwhile, this season’s Big Brother Africa has been named The Amplified and it is hoped to be as competitive as the ones before it. Let’s hope we get someone with enough confidence to bring home the goods.
